Cooking Essentials For Hosting Guests

When you’re entertaining guests at your home, the pressure is always on to prepare great food for them. Whether the guests are friends and family or important colleagues from work, you need to have the right equipment to help you maximize your talents. If you don’t quite have the talent, you’ll need even better equipment and a lot of luck! If you don’t know where to start, here are some of the cooking essentials you’ll need.

Cookware – Cast iron cookware is the starting point of any kitchen essentials list. It lasts for a longer period of time, cooks flavorful food and is easy to keep clean and in good condition. There’s a wide variety of products available to give you a range of options for your menus, from cornbread pans  to Danish cake pans. Or there’s fondue pots, casserole dishes and skillets. The only question is what you’ll be cooking first.

Stainless steel cookware also offers great options, including deep fryers for treating your guests to some fried food. They’re easy to use, with non-stick coating to save you from any problems getting the food to the plate while your guests are waiting.

Pasta Cookers – Pasta is always a safe bet for when you’re hosting guests. Everyone likes pasta, it’s easy to cook and there’s lots of options for you to choose from. These pasta cookers come in aluminum or stainless steel and can also be used to prepare rice or vegetables, making them useful in so many ways.

Pizza Ovens – Another safe bet is pizza, which is always popular, always tasty and easy to make, especially if you have a good pizza oven to cook them in. Toaster ovens can not only make you great toast and toasted sandwiches, but are also excellent for homemade pizzas that are healthier and tastier than anything you could order in.

Baking Molds – If you’re looking to bake something for your guests, you’ll need some baking molds, which offer you the chance to bake quiches, pies, cakes, etc. If your guests are particularly beloved, you could even use a heart-shaped mold, but we wouldn’t necessarily recommend this for business guests…

Mixers – Mixers and blenders are also an essential part of any good kitchen set-up, and if you want to treat your guests to a healthy smoothie or just crush some ice for a margarita or dacquiri, you’ll need the proper equipment.

Cooking Essentials for Hosting Guests

If you are expecting house guests during the remainder of the summer, there’s a good chance you might be concerned about getting your home in order. This includes cleaning the house and ensuring fresh linens are on the beds in your guest room as well as clean towels in the bathroom. But have you thought about what food you will serve your guests?

When hosting friends or relatives, you might want to consider dishes that are easy to make. Low supervision is also important to afford you the benefit of spending more time with them.

The next time you are expecting guests, consider the following dining ideas.

1.) For lunch or dinner, a stew or hearty soup will satisfy most appetites. To prepare it, you will need a quality slow cooker. Make it a more substantial meal by preparing cornbread or biscuits. For added flavor, consider making it in a cast iron skillet.

2.) Host a cookout with easy to prepare meals like burgers, hotdogs and barbecue chicken. Cook these items outdoors on a gas grill. If weather does not permit, cook them indoors on an electric grill.

3.) Consider making dishes in advance and storing them in the refrigerator until you are ready to eat. A casserole is ideal as it is tasty and will store easily for a few days. Some recipes to consider include a chicken and rice bake, a Cajun shrimp casserole or a baked ziti. To make a casserole you will need a quality casserole dish and lid.

4.) Serve fancy or gourmet sandwiches like turkey club or turkey meatball subs. Place condiments on your counter top and let everyone make their own sandwiches just the way they like them. Serve with side dishes like potato chips, coleslaw or baked beans.

Don’t forget to stock your home with snacks for your guests as well. Consider items that most people like such as yogurt, fresh baked cookies, assorted nuts, crackers and hummus. Also, be sure to fill your refrigerator with a large jug of lemonade or iced tea for drinks!

Where will you sleep? If using a tent, make sure you have everything you’ll need for assembly. This includes tent stakes, a hammer and a broom for keeping the tent free of debris. Consider a tarp for added protection during the rainy season.

Next, gather your sleeping bags, pillows and/or air mattresses. If taking an air mattress, make sure you have an air pump as well.

What will you eat? Start by packing cooking equipment and utensils such as a camping stove, pots, pans, spatulas, tongs, can openers and oven mitts.

You’ll also need dishes to eat on. For convenience, it makes sense to pack paper plates, cups and plastic silverware. Remember to include trash bags, dish towels and dish washing liquid for clean-up.

Planning for Graduation Open Houses

An open house is an excellent way to honor your graduate. Along with providing fun and enjoyment, it provides an easy way to invite a number of people to your home or venue without having to worry about overcrowding. When scheduling the invite, you’ll want to have guests stop by within any time period, so they can come and go as they please.

As with any other party, you’ll need to plan carefully to ensure it’s a success! This includes selecting a tasty food and beverage menu, a decorated venue and hosting a wide range of activities.

Open House Theme

Begin by selecting an open house theme. This will help you in planning your decorations, the menu and more. Some ideas include the school mascot or school colors. You can also consider a theme centering around a favorite subject such as Art, French, Math or perhaps a favorite sport. Try to think about your graduate’s future career plans when selecting your theme, and incorporate that goal into your ideas.

Party Supplies

Make your party festive with colorful decorations. Be sure your table cloths, napkins, paper plates and more will match and compliment each other. Enhance your décor with balloons, personalized banners and lovely floral centerpieces.

Food/Menu

Consider your open house theme when coming up with ideas for food servings. Have the food center around this theme. For example, if a band or football club is your theme, serve food items that would be enjoyed while tailgating or sold at concessions stands. Along with grilling, serve cotton candy, snow cones, hot dogs or funnel cakes for added excitement. Finally, don’t forget a celebratory cake or cupcakes to give your party that special touch.

Invitations/Party Favors

Set the tone for your upcoming open house by creating some innovative invitations. Use your theme as inspiration. Some other ideas might include a photo, cartoon or digital e-vite.

Put together party favor bags for your guests. Possibly have one for adults and another for children. Some things to include in the bags include personalized lollipops, ink pens, glow stick jewelry or bubbles.

Activities

Finally, you’ll want to have things for your guests to do and enjoy while stopping by your open house. Choose activities that will be memorable for your graduate such as a photo booth or signing a guest book. You can also have board games on hand or entertainment that include a musical group or magician.

Before you get started, you’ll want to draft a business plan.  This should include legal requirements and specifications such as whether you will be able to cook from home or whether you’ll need to rent a kitchen. Additionally, you’ll need to establish a budget that includes insurance, business cards and other marketing strategies.

This way you will only need to purchase the basics such as:

You will also need to have a large van or trailer for transporting groceries, supplies and other equipment.
