General Description
Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge – Max Range 225 mm
The ultrasonic thickness gauge has a max range of 225 mm. The size of the unit is 146 x 29 x 72 mm, and the resolution is 0.1 mm.
Function
The thickness meter works by emitting a sound pulse and measuring the amount of time it takes for the pulse to return to a probe on the unit. The thickness of the material is then displayed on the unit’s screen.
Applications
The gauge and thickness meter can be used in engineering and industrial applications. The typical application is to measure the thickness of pipe, and in general when any metal or material needs to be measured non-invasively, such as sheet metal, and can also be used as a coating thickness gauge.

Hello Michael, thank you for your question. The ultrasonic thickness gauge will certainly measure the thickness of metal, however, after consulting with the manufacturer there could be some accuracy flaws. The ultrasonic thickness gauge's accuracy can be obscured by the heavy scale rust on the inside of the steel.
Hello Roger, thank you for your question. The ultrasonic thickness gauge will only measure the layer of material closest to the sensor of the gauge. Another issue you will have is that you would need to change the settings to get accurate readings on different materials. The setting to measure steel is different than to measure rubber. The manual provided with the ultrasonic thickness gauge will explain how to set the gauge.
Hello Josh, thank you for your question. No our ultrasonic thickness gauges will not be able to measure the thickness of concrete. If what you are measuring is concrete lined then this gauge is not suitable for your application.
Hi Matt, thank you for your question. We do not recommend using this ultrasonic thickness gauge to measure metals with substantial corrosion because the corrosion could cause the gauge to give false readings. The maximum measuring range for this item is 300MM or 11.8 in. If you have a specific questions about the D1140772, call our sales team at 1-888-667-5776 or email at sales@deelat.com for assistance.
Hello Mohammad, thank you for your question. Yes this ultrasonic thickness gauge will work with different type of metals. You would just need to change the velocity of the sound wave on the gauge to the respected metal you are measuring. Yes the gauge should be able to help you determine and thinning of the tube caused by bending or corrosion.
Hello Steve, thank you for your question. No our ultrasonic thickness gauge will not measure the thickness of concrete.
Hello Neil, thank you for your question. Our ultrasonic thickness gauges can be used to measure wood and fiberglass materials. The accuracy is rated to be (1%H+0.1) mm
Hi Solomon. Thank you for your question. If both sides of the elastic modulus are flat and there is no coating on it, then it can be measured accurately.
Hello Kenny, thank you for your question. It is not suggested to use our ultrasonic thickness gauge to measure curved steel as the curvature of the surface could distort the reading accuracy.
Hello Wilber, thank you for your question. Unfortunately our ultrasonic thickness gauge cannot measure the thickness of wood. If you have any other questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.
Yes, the D1140772 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge can measure fire pipe thickness. Its gauge can measure the thickness of various metals up to 225mm (8-55/64”).
Yes it can be used without the gel, however it will effect the accuracy of the reading.
These ultrasonic thickness gauges will not be accurate on a textile product. If you would like some suggestions about your project, please contact our customer support.
Hello Hans, thank you for your question. There should not be any water in the pipe when taking a measurement and the water can affect the reading. The water can cause you to get inaccurate reading on the thickness gauge.
The ultrasonic thickness gauge cannot measure paint thickness on non-metallic substrates. It can, however, measure the thickness of the non-magnetic coating on the magnetic metal substrate.
Hi. This ultrasonic thickness gauge can measure pipe, as long as the measurement is conducted with the pipe parallel.
We bought it to measure aircraft acrylic windows thickness. It works great.
No, our ultrasonic thickness gauges cannot measure thickness on composite material used in aerospace.
Hello Jason, thank you for your question. Yes our ultrasonic thickness gauge will certainly be able to measure the thickness of a pipe while water is running through the pipe. You should still get a very accurate reading. Just make sure to always use gel on the probe when taking a measurement.
Yes, these ultrasonic thickness gauges work for both carbon and stainless steel. For the velocities, you will have to check the manual, which is linked in each product page.
Hello Russell, thank you for your question. The ultrasonic thickness gauge will not give accurate readings if trying to measure a painted surface. The paint must be removed before taking a reading.
Hello Craig, thank you for your question. There are no other probes available with this ultrasonic thickness gauge. Only the standard probe that comes with the ultrasonic thickness gauge itself.
Cast iron is not suitable for use with this gauge. The internal crystal grains are too large. If you have any other questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your question John. These Thickness gauges are able to measure boiler tubes. the Operation temperature is -10 to 60 Degrees Celsius. Please contact customer support if you have any other questions or concerns.
Hi Ajay, thanks for your question. We do not have a data sheet for this product, but we can tell you it has a diameter of 10 mm (0.39") and it operates at a frequency of 5MHz. Some other specifications that you may find helpful can be found in the Product Manual PDF on this page above "Technical Details." If you have any other questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.
This ultrasonic thickness gauge cannot curved pipe, as the measurement must be conducted on an object with parallel surfaces. The pipe's curve would have to be flattened in order to measure the thickness.
Hello Kal, thank you for your question. The ultrasonic thickness gauge will work on painted metal. We recommend you confirm what tyoe of metal you are measuring to make sure this ultrasonic thickness gauge is able to read that metal type. Compatible metal types can be found in the owners manual available for download above.
Yes, the ultrasonic thickness gauge can measure the thickness of 3D printed parts and silicone rubber. But one condition for this is that the measured objective must have two parallel surfaces on the top and bottom. The object also cannot be a compound with extra impurities. For example, cast iron is not suitable for use with this gauge, as its internal crystal grains are too large.
This ultrasonic thickness gauge cannot measure steel coils, as the measurement must be conducted on a parallel surface. The coil would have to be flattened in order to measure the thickness.
The D1140772 would not be able to measure the thickness of the steel in this case. If you are interested in ordering a custom made product, please contact our customer service.
Yes, this ultrasonic thickness gauge can be used for pitted steel plates so long as the surfaces are parallel.
Hello Sally, thank you for your question. This ultrasonic thickness gauge can measure soluble glass, The country of origin is China. For shipping time frame please contact us with your exact location to better calculate shipping time frame.
Hello Chuck, thank you for your question. Our ultrasonic thickness gauge will only measure plastic film made of acrylic , acetate resin , and nylon. It can measure from 1mm to 300mm.
In theory, yes, the ultrasonic thickness gauge can measure ice, but you will need to make sure the top and bottom of your material are parallel to each other.
Hi Robert, thanks for your question. This ultrasonic thickness gauge is ideal for measuring objects that have a flat surface. Unfortunately, the device would not suit your application. If you have any other questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.
