Working from home can be extremely rewarding. Aside from not having to get dressed for the office or make a long commute, having a home office allows you to work anytime of the day or night.

Creating a home office can be as simple as placing a desk, chair and computer in an extra room. However, if you work from home often, you’ll want to put much more thought and effort into your home office design. When coming up with a design, make sure your office reflects your personal style and gives your home some added flair.

Organization is extremely important for your productivity. Whether working full-time or part-time from home, your office should always be tidy and well organized. Some items that can help you become and remain organized include:

• Wire baskets
• A chalk or whiteboard with accessories
• Post-It Notes and Letter openers
• Filing cabinet
• Storage bins
• Time clock

Not everyone has a spare bedroom in their home. So what do you do if you are limited on space?

• Convert a closet into an office. Hide your office when not in use by covering it with a curtain or folding doors.
• Multi-purpose space. For example, you can create a dining room/office combo by selecting a credenza or buffet that is of height to use as a desk. Papers, files, etc. can also be stored in the credenza. Choose dining room chairs on wheels so that they can be easily rolled from the table to the desk. Other ideas include a suspended or floating desk in a bedroom or foyer.
• Make space in your garage, attic or basement. With a little work, an unused space can also be transformed into a functional office space.

Comfort is also very important when choosing items to place in your home office. This includes:

• Ergonomic seating
• Adequate lighting
• Hiding wires and cords
• Protecting floors with a chair mat.
