1. Recruit a friend. You can get lots more done with the help of a friend. Clean and organize your home this weekend and do theirs the following weekend. There is nothing like teamwork!

2. Before starting the clean-up, be sure to have multiple supplies on hand. This includes hangers, garbage bags and storage containers.

3. Be prepared to get rid of unwanted or unused items. When cleaning out closets, be sure to put unwanted clothes in garbage bags as you go along.

4. Take items to Goodwill or charities immediately. As you clean, take bags to the car or truck, or move items to the garage in preparation for donation. This way you can keep track of your progress.

5. Store items that you rarely use on top shelves or in the attic.

6. Don’t waste space. Store clothing or bedding under the bed in storage bags.

7. Use stackable storage bins for organizing things like craft materials, jewelry, bolts or electronic items such as phone chargers.

Finding the Right Projector Screen

Today, home theaters are becoming more and more popular. Many are using home projectors in the classroom or boardroom for both training and sales.

Once you’ve found the ideal projector, you’ll need to find the right projector screen for your home theater, classroom or boardroom. Here are a few things to look for when choosing a new screen:

Size

Select the right sized screen for your room or space. It might be tempting to choose the largest screen on the market, but this could turn out to be a mistake. Truth is, the larger the screen, the darker the image will be. Consequently, unless you are using a projector with an above average amount of lumens (the average being 1,000 to 2,500), you’ll want to choose a smaller screen.

Additionally, you will need to consider the size of your space and wall. Choose a projector screen that will fit neatly on your wall – one that allots for leaving a few inches open above, below and on both sides.

Material/Color

Did you know that all projector screens are not white? That’s right. When choosing a screen you have the option of white, gray or even black. Choose your color based upon the brightness of your room. For example, if your home theater is in a dark basement, you will be fine with a white screen. However, if your room is upstairs with lots of windows, you should go with a gray screen. Black should only be used in extreme cases.

Next, you’ll need to decide on the type of material you’ll want your screen to be made of. This choice will likely depend upon where you will keep your speakers. If you plan to install them behind the screen, you should choose a screen with perforations to aid in sound quality. If not, opt for a woven or fiber glass screen.

Style

Will your room be designated for movie watching or used for other functions? Your answer to this question will help you to decide what style of screen you want. The three options are fixed, retractable and manual. The manual screen is used in many school classrooms and is the most economical and easy to use. Lightweight and mobile, it can also be used for sales and business presentations and comes in a variety of sizes. A fixed screen however will always remain in place and ready to use, while a retractable screen is motor operated. It goes up and down with the use of a motor and can be mounted either to the wall or ceiling. You can also opt to operate them via a remote or wall switch.

Home Inspection Tips

Most likely your home will be the biggest purchase you will ever make. So when looking for a house, you’ll want to make sure that it’s a good investment.

Don’t Fall in Love with a House

Before you purchase a house, you’ll want to have it inspected. Therefore, it is important that you avoid making an emotional commitment before you have a professional inspection done and have reviewed the report.

If you choose to make an offer prior to the inspection, be sure to include a contingency clause. That is, your offer is made contingent upon the receipt of a passing inspection report.

What to Look for in the Inspection

The point of the inspection is to uncover any potential problems. This is especially important with costly repairs in areas of electrical, heating, air conditioning or plumbing. To ensure a thorough examination, some steps you should require in your home inspection include:

  • Examination of the exterior including the roof and foundation.
  • Inspection of the electrical system.
  • Inspection of the heating/air conditioning system.
  • Inspection of the plumbing system.
  • Inspection of the basement as well as each individual room.

What to Look for when Hiring an Inspector

To get a quality inspection, you’ll need to be sure your inspector is qualified. Referrals are the best way to find a good person or agency. Look for inspectors that are members of the American Society of Home Inspectors. You’ll want the home inspector to be both licensed and insured.

Make sure your inspector will issue a detailed, written and signed report within a few days following the inspection.

Be Sure to Attend the Inspection

It can be tempting to skip being around during the time of inspection. However, this is a big mistake. Being present will allow your inspector to better explain and even show you his findings. You will also learn a lot more information and detail about the house by attending.

Deducting Costs for Repairs

With your report in hand, you can better negotiate or renegotiate the price of the home.

3D Printer Buyers Guide: Considerations, Types and Cost

3D printers might be one of the most exciting – and newest – technologies to hit the market in decades. Now, it’s possible to build 3D objects on-demand in the comfort of your office. Yet, if you’ve never used a 3D printer before, or you’re new to this type of technology, it can be difficult to know what to look for, the different types of print technologies, and the other specs you should consider.

Many of the consumer 3D printers are traditionally smaller in size, but can print materials up to the size of about a loaf of bread. So what do you need to consider when buying a 3D printer? Here are the few features you should think about:

  • Build Area Size and Shape: There is the area in which the object is printed. Depending on the type of objects you will be printing, you should consider how big the print box needs to be. Fortunately, 3D printing makes it easy to print multiple parts and fit them together later.
  • Printing Technology: There are several different types of technologies used in 3D printing. One of the most common is Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). FDM printers build high-quality parts using plastics, and because of this, they’re widely used in production manufacturing. Additionally, more advanced FDM printers can use multiple print nozzles, which are known as extruders, and have the ability to print in finer detail.
  • XY Resolution: 3D printers are like paper printers in that both can print up to a specific resolution. XY resolution is a measure of the 3D printer’s ability to print in detail. A finer resolution will enable the printer to print finer details. This resolution is measured in millimeters. Typically, XY resolution ranges around .3 millimeters.
  • Extruder Type: Budget 3D printers tend to use a single extruder, which is the nozzle from which the melted plastic is layered onto the object. Having a single extruder limits the printer to a single material/color at one time. Higher end printers have dual extruders, which yields a faster print speed, as well as the ability to print in multiple colors/materials at the same time.
  • Print Speed: This is the faster speed the extruder moves around the build area. Yet, material type as well as the level of detail in a particular print can slow down the print speed.
  • Layer Resolution: This is a measure of the thickness of a particular layer that can be laid in a single pass. Typically, budget 3D printers have larger layer resolutions, meaning they aren’t capable of laying down fine details. Finer resolutions, though, can create very fine details. This resolution is typically measured in microns, or fractions of a mm. On average, layer thickness for many printers is about .3 millimeters, yet some have the ability to go down to 1 micron or finer.
