When setting up a new company warehouse or refurbishing an existing one, you have an opportunity to improve the efficiency of your business by carefully planning what items and materials you may require in the warehouse and how they will work together to achieve your goals.

If your warehouse isn’t set up correctly with the proper items and materials, your whole operation will struggle to satisfy customer demand and you could end up spending more time and money than what is necessary in order to achieve basic functions.

Below are some of the essential items and materials that most warehouses require to run a business efficiently and effectively.

Shelving – A warehouse without shelves is just a big room full of things that nobody can find, so having the proper shelving for your products is key to how successful your warehouse operations will be. Industrial steel shelving will offer you reliability and heavy duty durability, both of which are exactly what you’ll be looking for. If you need more flexible and portable shelving options, consider investing in some wire shelving as well.

SKU #D1170900

Even more storage options – It’s not all about the shelves of course. Depending on what your warehouse needs to store, you may need something more suited for smaller items, which is where stacking bins and foldable storage containers could fit the bill. If you are going to use pallets, pallet rack netting will help you keep them secure.

Wheels – When you’ve got your storage sorted, you will still need to transport items around the warehouse, and this will need to be appropriate for various sized products. Pallet truck jacks will move around large and heavy items on pallets with surprisingly good maneuvrability, while folding dollies will do the job for smaller items.

SKU# D1140706

Shipping materials – Most warehouses will have to ship out various items to customers or retailers, so yours will need to have the right equipment to do this efficiently. Floor scales offer the ability to weigh bulky items with a minimum of disruption to warehouse activities while bench scales or crane hanging scales can be used for smaller items. Fragile stickers and labels can also be used for packaging products.

SKU #D1047070

Safety equipment – No responsible warehouse owner can take risks with his staff’s safety, so you will need to take the necessary precautions. Whether it’s having the right alarms installed, first aid kits and stations, protective clothing or footwear, you need to make sure that you have taken into account the specific hazards present in your warehouse and supplied all the correct items and materials to make it as safe as possible.

Whether warehousing your own products or acting as a distribution center for other businesses, there are a few important supplies your warehouse business will need to operate efficiently. This includes equipment and items to assist in packaging, shipping and storage.

Along with protecting your products from damage, these packaging essentials will also help in keeping record of your inventory and ensuring it is always ready to go.

Packaging/Shipping Supplies

When packaging products, you’ll want to make sure items are sealed and protected during storage as well as during shipping. Some supplies to assist in this process include:

Anti-Corrosive Tissue

Corrugated Boxes

Corrugated Mailers

Strapping Dispensers

Tape

Bubble Wrap

Scissors

Weighing System

Labels

Storage Supplies

While waiting to be shipped, items will need to be protected from corrosion, breakage or water damage during storage or while being transported in the the warehouse. To do this, keep the following supplies on hand:

Stretch Film

Storage Bins

Pallet Racks/Rack Bins

Pallet Rack Netting

As your business grows, you’ll want to optimize your time and efforts by arranging your warehouse in a way that makes sense for your employees. This might mean keeping your most popular items near the front of the warehouse and keeping items that are cross merchandised near each other for easy packing and convenient accessibility.

Deelat.com offers a wide selection of warehouse supplies for sale. Shop with us today and save!

A lift table is a hydraulically-powered lifting device that using a scissors mechanism to raise or lower heavy machinery or products over short distances. Lift tables – which are sometimes called scissor lifts – are commonly used for pallet maneuvering, vehicle loading and positioning heavy equipment.

Lift Table

Lift tables are also credited with helping limit bending over to work on equipment. For example, in woodworking or metalworking, the constant need to bend over to work on furniture or equipment that hasn’t been lifted is hard on the back, and over time, can result in musculoskeletal disorders. Plus, another advantage: Lift tables are the perfect choice when overhead cranes, hoists or forklifts can’t be utilized for safety or space reasons.

Are you considering buying a lift table? There are many considerations to make when buying a hydraulic lift table. Choosing an improper type can result in damage to the lift, or will limit its functionality.

How Do Lift Tables Work?

Lift tables have two pairs of scissor struts, which can be opened or closed to lift a heavy load. The lifting action comes from hydraulic cylinders mounted under the struts. These cylinders provide a great deal of force, enabling quick, efficient lifting.

There are many different ways the cylinders can be engaged. There are electronic, pneumatic, and manual options. The manual lift tables are the most cost-effective and they are utilized most frequently for mid-range capacities of up to 700 Kg loads. Typically, heavy-duty vehicle lift tables are electronically or pneumatically powered. Manual lift tables are generally activated using a foot pump or hand crank.

Lift Tables: Considerations

When purchasing a hydraulic lift table, you should consider the load capacity, height in operation, and the unit’s mobility, as well as other features.

Lift Capacity: Lift tables are designed to hoist loads of a specific weight. Lift tables range in capacity from 300 kg up to 3000 kg or more. It’s important to match the unit’s lift capacity to that of the object you will be lifting. Overloading the table may damage the struts and overwork the hydraulic cylinders.

Unit Mobility: Lift tables are either designed for fixed or flexible installation. Fixed installation lift tables are generally high capacity units that are designed for installation in auto garages and on production lines. Mobile units have wheels or are lightweight enough to move by hand.

Height: You should consider both the lift height, which is the maximum height the load can be lifted when engaged, as well as the folded height. It’s best to choose a maximum lift height that is greater than the most common height you will be lifting loads to; this will help extend the life of the unit. Additionally, the folded height should be considered when there are space restrictions.

Duty Cycle: The units “duty cycle” is the frequency that it is designed to lift a load. For example, many units are not designed to lift loads dozens of time per hour. Maxing out the duty cycle can lead to faster wear and tear, and limit the unit’s functionality. If you need a unit that will be used to lift frequently, i.e. many times per hour, you should consider a unit with a rapid duty cycle.

Load Positioning: Many lift tables have tilt or rational functionalities, which make it easier to position a load. Be sure to choose a lift table with title or rotational capability, if the load will need to be moved around frequently.

Casters are small wheels that can be attached to furniture and equipment for faster and safer mobility. There are two main types of casters: Rigid casters and swivel casters. Swivel casters have the ability to move in all directions, and they are commonly used on furniture and heavy equipment. Rigid casters, on the other hand, can only move forward and backwards, and they are primarily used to move equipment in a straight line.

Heavy Duty Anti Skid Caster

Each caster is made up of several common components. These include the frame (mounting plate), legs and wheel. The frame is attached to the bottom of the object being moved. Two legs are attached to the frame, which support the wheel. Swivel casters, though, have a bearing just above the legs, which allows the caster to swivel. Finally, the two legs hold the axle, which supports the wheel.

Casters can be attached to a piece of equipment in a number of ways, including stems and by bolting the mounting plate to the equipment. Casters can have stems that point up from the frame, and that are made of rubber, metal or a threaded material. These are attached by placing the stem into an outlet in the equipment. Casters can also be attached by bolting or welding the mounting plate to the equipment, which is the most common type of connection.

Factors to Consider When Buying Casters

When buying a caster wheel, there are a number of things you’ll need to keep in mind. For example, choosing a rigid caster vs. double ball bearing caster will cause mobility issues, as rigid casters aren’t able to swivel. Additionally, you’ll need to consider the number of casters that you will need and the capacity of the casters. Be sure to consider:

Capacity: Casters are designed to accommodate loads of a certain capacity. In general, there are small and medium capacity wheels, as well as heavy-duty casters. You don’t want to overload or reach the maximum capacity, as this will make it difficult to move the load manually. Instead, aim for loading at about half the capacity of the caster for easier moving. For example, if you’ll be moving a 200kg load, choose caster wheels that are rated for 400kg or better; this will increase the mobility. But if the load will be moved mechanically, you can put more weight on the wheel.

Medium Duty Stem Mount Caster

Mobility: Rigid and double bearing casters are used in a number of different applications, but you’ll run into trouble if you need to swivel but have installed a fixed caster. If you’re unsure, you can choose a swivel caster with a locking feature to prevent the bearing from moving. In applications with four wheels, sometimes two rigid caster and two swivel casters are used to allow the equipment to move in a straight line, while the swivel will help steer the object.

Attachments: Again, casters can be attached with either a mounting plate or with a stem. Mounting plates are the most common type, and they can be attached to the bottom of a trolley or wooden pushcart. Stems require an outlet in the equipment, so if you choose a stemmed caster, be sure it will fit into the available outlet. Stemmed casters are useful for stationary equipment, as they can be removed, once the equipment is in place.

Braking and Locking: Some casters have a brake or locking feature. This allows the wheel to be locked in place, which is useful when the object will remain stationary for extended periods of time. For example, musical equipment is often affixed with this type of caster. Thus, during the performance, they can be locked in place, and moved quickly following the show.

Wheel Type: Caster wheels are made from a variety of materials. For standard applications, wheels may be constructed from durable plastics. This will maximize rollability, while keeping costs low. Other applications may require an anti-skid wheel with added traction.

Deelat.com offers a range of quality medium capacity and heavy duty casters. We offer some of the best prices for caster wheels online. Start shopping for casters today!
